The Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture is organising an International Conference on Wooden architectural heritage and national cultural policy on 26-28 May, 2010, in Vilnius, Lithuania. The conference aims to reveal the peculiarities of national cultural policy and the linkage between Lithuania and neighbor states through the example of wooden architectural heritage.
The main goal of this conference is to discuss the main conditions which determine the protection system of the heritage of wooden architecture: investigation, safeguarding, maintenance, knowledge and dissemination thereof and rehabilitation. Besides that attention will be paid to considerations of purposes, methods and priorities of wooden heritage protection. One of the objectives of the conference is to take a look to the heritage of wooden architecture within European context, possible interactions and influence.
The Department of Cultural Heritage invites academic community, the representatives of institutions related to the protection of wooden architecture, scientists, architects, cultural heritage protection specialists and policy makers to submit proposals for papers on related themes.
The conference will feature panels in the following areas:
- National approach to the protection of the heritage of wooden architecture.
- National programs of the protection of the heritage of wooden architecture - the idea, efficiency, results.
- The Scandinavian and neighbouring countries experience of protection and actualisation of the heritage of wooden architecture. Municipal efforts to protect wooden architectural heritage.
- Heritage of wooden architecture – the tourism resource (the opportunity for municipalities to develop regional tourism).
- Role of education projects in the process of heritage protection and making essential decisions.
- Tourism and protection of the heritage of wooden architecture (information centers - their role and tasks).
- Urban planning and protection of the heritage of wooden architecture.
- The features of the protection of the heritage of wooden architecture in Lithuania.
- Specialist training: from the University to the craftsmen - the national concern (concern of the state)?
- New materials and technologies in the objects of the heritage of wooden architecture.
- Research of traditional wooden architecture in the rural areas.
- Authors are invited to submit abstracts (preferably in *.doc format, up to 300 words), which briefly presents the theme and crucial aspects of the forthcoming report (up to 30 minutes duration) under the chosen topic.
Conference language: Lithuanian (translation into English).
